Play this until you run out of frets. Then go back down the neck again. This will greatly improve your picking accuracy. |-------------------------------------------2---4------------------------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------2---4-1---3-----3---5----------------------------------------------| |---------------------------2---4-1---3-----------2---4-----3---5--------------------------------------| |-------------------2---4-1---3---------------------------2---4-----3---5------------------------------| |-----------2---4-1---3-------------------------------------------2---4-----3---5----------------------| |---2---4-1---3-----------------------------------------------------------2---4-----3---5--------------| |-1---3---------------------------------------------------------------------------2---4----------------| When your done with that, now reverse the order. Try to memorize each string by its sound. Play a random string open without looking, and be sure you can name which string it is. Once you do this, you will understand the guitar by more than just feel, technique and pattern, but how it truly sounds musically. __________________________________________SONGWRITING/TECHNIQUE____________________________________________________ Listen to a song from your favorite artist (or any artist). Write down the songwriting style. For example, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, solo, climax, etc. Then write your own song in this format. Try to do this often to learn new ways of writing songs rather than the plain old verse, chorus, verse, verse, chorus etc. You can even try using similar things such as chords, or picking patterns to create a song in the same style, all helping to develop techinique in both songwriting and playing style. _____________________________________MY OWN MAYBE NOT SO NORMAL OPINION ON MUSIC___________________________________ Ok today Im gonna talk about stage presence... In "My" opinion, the best stage appearance is the most original stage appearance. My opinion will not get you on the radio, or on MTV in most cases, but hey you may sell alot of records through word of mouth and other means now days being an actual GREAT musician! So if you want to be absolutely amazing on stage, you dont need to get a mohawk (although one may be nice on you ';o) or carry your guitar to your knees. Just be something worth looking at, if your a big fat guy that you dont think anyone wants to see? Fine wear a baby bib! *jk* Or maybe you can wear a big chefs hat, or even the apron, it would be good to have a really skinny band maybe! You can wear just everyday clothes and just do some fancy footwork or headbopping on stage even. Just be interesting! And try to collaberate with the rest of the band, so if your wearing the chefs costume, then try to get the rest of your band to be the same or a construction worker, a police man or an indian... wait thats the village people... Anyways listen to the village people! They dont have exactly great music... But hey their costumes and stage antics made them famous! If your confident and wear some crazy stuff, you will probably confuse the audience.. and if you confuse people then musicians and others will like you! you will be cool! You can hang out with the cool people and stuff... Ok so the point here is not very well drawn out! Just be interesting and "different" and confident *our last lesson* on stage. Then people will like to see you, like to hear you, and will want to be your friend ;o) Or throw a tomato at you..... Either way you win!, am I right?
